Social problems are varied and numerous. Social problems are the result of the failure of a society to adapt its social institutions and culture to its growing needs. Social problems to a great extent are man-made. They are one of the major sources of social sufferings. The lives of all members of a social maladies. The social problems and social maladies is no doubt, one of the tragic human interest, so much so in fact that is not confined to our country or theirs alone but cuts across national boundaries. The poignant note which the social problems and maladies evoke a great threat to human civilization as well as to mankind. Social insecurity, social disorganization, social inequality or, unequal distribution of opportunity, growing criminality in man in every sphere of life, everywhere are some of the major sources of human sufferings. This calls for serious public attention and vigorous social action to cement the breaches and overcome the deficits in order to restore a state of social equilibrium within the society. A realization of this type is possible with a sympathetic attitude supported by scientific understanding of the nature, extent, social diagnosis and therapeutic action to resolve a social problem. Such a realization is of a recent origin which has come in the wake of the development of social sciences. With greater development of social sciences rapid strides were taken in understanding and tackling social problems on a more scientific basis. The present day understanding of a social problem is vastly different from what it was in earliest societies. Tracing the social reality and finding effective solution necessitate greater number of professionally qualified social worker. In the twenty first century, social catestrophies and social maladies, social disasters, social disorganization is no more mystery to qualified social workers. Social workers are capable of giving scientific analysis to social problems and resolving the problems through scientific method.
This provides the background and genesis of establishing an excellent School of Social Work for producing dynamic, updated, competent social workers to combat all forms of social maladies and social disasters and social inequalities.
